Jim is a freelance photographer working in the southeast region of the UK supplying pictures primarily for magazine features and working on both PR and corporate commissions. A small sample list of Jim’s clients appears at the bottom of the page.

He also uses his background in newspapers to offer ‘environmental portraits’ where the sitter is photographed in their own home or favourite place. They will most likely be pursuing their hobby or work, or simply, for instance, be in their potting shed! What Jim offers is essentially a portrait of them in their own environment - approached in an editorial feature style.

The ‘jimmythesnaps’ website is set out mostly as a collection of galleries covering local community events outside his normal commissions. The ‘Portraits & Proofs’ category does, however, differ slightly. That is where any proof galleries can be found for clients that wish to log in and see their images. Due to deadlines and reproduction or commercial sensitivity only a fraction of jobs can be seen here.

Jim's twenty-year career in photojournalism has seen his work appear in many national newspapers, regional dailies and magazines. His pictures have been said to reflect contemporary life with an engaging and sometimes light-hearted twist.

With an emphasis on features his style has attained several awards, including two Guild of Picture Editor awards for Arts and Entertainment Photographer of the Year, and the Fuji News Photographer of the Year. He was awarded the Newsquest Photographer of the Year prize in 2000, and other industry achievements include nominations for the BT Regional Photographer of the Year and the UK Press Gazette awards.

In the mid 1980s Jim served his apprenticeship with the Kent & Sussex Courier, where he gained his National Council for the Training of Journalists qualification at Sheffield before accepting a post at the Brighton Argus in 1989. In 2008 he wanted to concentrate on PR, corporate & features and went freelance.
